Experience the elegance of Tuscany with the Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 2019, a premium Italian red wine crafted by one of Italy’s most historic winemaking families. Made predominantly from Sangiovese grapes grown on the prestigious Tenuta Tignanello estate, this vintage reflects centuries of winemaking excellence and tradition.
Vintage Overview – Exceptional Growing Conditions in 2019
The 2019 vintage was marked by a balanced growing season in the Chianti Classico region, with a cool spring followed by a warm, stable summer. Ideal weather in late August through October allowed the grapes to achieve optimal ripeness, resulting in a wine of depth, complexity, and finesse.
Vinification – Traditional Methods with Modern Precision
Grapes were hand-harvested, gently destemmed, and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Careful skin maceration, pump-overs, and délestage techniques extracted elegant tannins and rich aromas. The wine underwent spontaneous malolactic fermentation, followed by 12 months of ageing in French and Hungarian oak barriques, and a further year of bottle refinement before release.
Tasting Notes – A Complex and Elegant Chianti Riserva
This Chianti Classico Riserva red wine is ruby red in colour with a captivating aromatic profile. The nose reveals ripe red fruits, cherries, raspberries, and currants, layered with floral hints of violet, lavender, and wild rose. Subtle earthy and spicy notes of tobacco, cinnamon, and cloves are accented by a touch of milk chocolate.
On the palate, this wine is well-balanced with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a savoury, lingering finish. A superb example of a high-end aged Sangiovese wine that is both structured and approachable.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Pair this wine with classic Italian dishes such as Tuscan roast meats, pasta with wild boar ragù, or aged pecorino cheese. It is also ideal for cellaring or gifting to a wine connoisseur.
Discover Six Centuries of Tuscan Winemaking with the Antinori Family Wines
Experience the legacy of one of Italy’s most iconic wine producers, the Antinori family, whose winemaking heritage in Tuscany spans over 600 years and 26 generations. Since 1385, the Antinori family has crafted fine Italian wines that reflect both ancient tradition and a pioneering spirit of innovation.
Originally silk traders in 12th-century Florence, the Antinori’s transitioned to winemaking and quickly gained international acclaim. By the 16th century, Antinori wines were being exported to France, Flanders, Spain, and North Africa, establishing a global reputation for quality Italian wine exports.
A major milestone in their journey was the acquisition of the Tignanello Estate in 1900, which sparked a new era of innovation and growth. Today, Antinori is celebrated as one of the top Tuscan wine producers, with prestigious vineyards in Piedmont, Lombardy, Umbria, and Puglia.
The Antinori vineyards cover nearly 1,400 hectares of premium vineyard land in Tuscany and Umbria, producing world-renowned wines such as Tignanello, Solaia and Badia a Passignano.
As Marchese Piero Antinori states, “Ancient roots play an important role in our philosophy, but they have never held back our spirit of innovation.”
