Discover the elegance and depth of the Ramon Bilbao Rioja Reserva 2018, a premium aged Spanish red wine crafted from old vines in the renowned Rioja Alta wine region. Made from bush-trained vines over 40 years old, this vintage is rooted in well-drained sandy and clay soils that contribute to the wine's complexity and structure.
Vineyards & Terroir
Sourced from select vineyards across Rioja Alta, the vines thrive in nutrient-poor soils with excellent drainage, ensuring low yields and high-quality grapes. These mature vines deliver concentrated fruit, forming the foundation of this exceptional reserva wine.
2018 Vintage, A Classic Year
The 2018 growing season brought a long, rainy winter, delaying budbreak by two weeks. However, the warm and dry conditions later in the season allowed for ideal grape ripening, resulting in a harvest rated "Good" by the Rioja Regulatory Council. Yields were 10% above average, delivering both quantity and quality.
Vinification & Ageing
The Ramon Bilbao Rioja Reserva undergoes a careful vinification process, starting with a 4-day cold soak and 18 days of total maceration. Malolactic fermentation occurs in concrete tanks to preserve purity and balance. The wine is then aged for 20 months in American oak barrels, followed by additional bottle ageing to ensure harmony and complexity.
Tasting Profile
This Rioja Reserva red wine exemplifies the classic style of the region. Expect layered aromas of ripe red fruits, subtle vanilla, and spice from oak ageing. On the palate, it is fresh and full-bodied with balanced acidity, smooth tannins, and a long, elegant finish.
